Service Area · Custom homes on acreage in La Tierra

La Tierra.

La Tierra is a gated custom-home community in northwest Santa Fe County, off the Tano Road corridor and about ten to fifteen minutes from the Plaza. The community covers roughly 1,200 acres with only 78 homesites, so each parcel runs from one to more than five acres and the spacing between homes is generous. Views reach north to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and west toward the Jemez, and the design code protects those sightlines by keeping massing low and site plans considered. For homeowners drawn to the area, La Tierra offers privacy, acreage, and convenient access to town in one place.

The character of La Tierra is quiet and estate-scaled. Long private drives lead to individual homes tucked into the topography, and the community's open space and trails keep the setting feeling more rural than the drive time to town would suggest. Homes here typically run from about 2,500 square feet up to over 6,000 square feet, and many are designed around outdoor living, courtyards, and long view corridors.

The prevailing architecture is custom Southwestern: Pueblo Revival massing and Territorial detailing translated to larger footprints, along with contemporary adobe and Santa Fe Contemporary variants. Earth-toned stucco, flat parapet roofs, vigas, canales, and deep portales are standard across the community. Custom new builds are the most common project type here, along with remodels and additions to existing custom homes.

Building in La Tierra involves the community's Architectural Review process before permits are pulled with Santa Fe County. The design code protects the neighborhood character and adds a step to the timeline that a builder needs to plan for from the beginning.
