Tesuque.
Tesuque is a small village just north of Santa Fe, tucked into the Tesuque Valley about ten minutes from the Plaza. Set at roughly 6,900 feet of elevation between the Sangre de Cristo foothills and the mesas to the west, Tesuque combines the convenience of proximity to town with the rural feel of a working valley: cottonwood-lined arroyos, orchards, horse properties, and long adobe walls set back behind acequia ditches. For homeowners drawn to a quiet village setting with easy access to Santa Fe, Tesuque is one of the most distinctive addresses in the region.
The character of Tesuque is rural and village-scaled. Homes sit on larger parcels than anything inside city limits, and the village retains a small, tight-knit feel. Tesuque Village Market anchors daily life at the intersection of Bishop's Lodge Road and NM 592, serving as post office, cafe, wine shop, and informal town square. The residential village borders the Pueblo of Tesuque to the north, and much of the surrounding land is either tribal, private ranch, or National Forest, which keeps the built footprint contained.
Homes in Tesuque follow the traditional rural adobe vocabulary: single-story or split-level homes with load-bearing adobe or frame-and-stucco walls, flat parapet roofs, viga-and-latilla ceilings, and courtyards oriented for winter sun. Territorial detailing shows up on older homes along the valley floor, while Pueblo Revival massing is more common on newer custom builds on the hillside lots. A meaningful share of the housing stock is converted farmhouses and outbuildings, some dating to the early or mid twentieth century, that have been enlarged into full residences over successive remodels. Custom new builds, historic restorations, and remodels of older homes are all common project types here.
Building in Tesuque runs through Santa Fe County jurisdiction rather than the City of Santa Fe, and the practical realities of valley lots, wells, and acequia rights need to be understood parcel by parcel.
If you're looking to build a custom home, remodel, or restore an older home in Tesuque, Tent Rock, Inc. has extensive experience working in the village.
